Why Chiropractors Are Getting Into Whole Body Vibration

To the chiropractic profession:

I have been a practicing doctor since I graduated from NCC in ’83. Since then I have been involved in general practice and became one of the first CCSP in the country.

I want to share some information about a technology you may have heard about:
Whole Body Vibration(WBV). I also want to share how this great modality may help us as chiropractic doctors.

Over a hundred years ago, Chiropractic doctors were the originators of wellness and healthy living. Practicing included and still does contain so much more than just giving adjustments. It includes helping our patients to engage in healthy alternatives and making their participation in wellness life style an easier choice.

By now it is common knowledge that the benefits ofΒ  alkalinewatee exercise are multifold. The amazing part of WBV is that it produces the same effects of exercise, just in a much shortened time frame. These claims are very well documented and scientifically proven.

Increased circulation, lymphatic drainage, metabolic increase, enhanced oxygen uptake, improved HGH etc are just some of the well documented physiologic benefits of WBV. Thus it becomes an easy and logical adjunct to the chiropractic practice.

WBV can be used in rehabilitation and strengthening of injured ligamentous or muscular tissues without taking the injured area through ranges of motion, making it the perfect choice of modality for any rehab facility. Exercise can now be started at a much earlier stage of improvement.

But rehabilitation, flexibility and strength training are just some of the applications that are enhanced by WBV.

Many chiropractic offices see a patient on multiple visits per week. Having a patient warm up and work out on a Whole Body Vibration machine just prior to an office visit is a very sensible recommendation. They can get their exercise, warm up for the adjustment, be physically and mentally more relaxed when they see the doctor and therefore enhance the effects of the treatment!

Best of all, sessions with a Whole Body Vibration machine are reimbursable by insurance as therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education or activities of daily living.

If a doctor has a cash practices like me, there is always the option of charging a nominal fee for a month-long “membership” of unlimited session. I charge patients who are not currently actively treating but are more on a wellness program only $50/ month to come into the office as often as they want and use the units.

As far as which type of vibration is better for chiropractic offices:
Please understand that both styles of vibration are very beneficial for chiropractic patients!

Ultimately, both technologies work great in our offices. The best scenario would be if a doctor can afford and has the room for both styles!!!

The reason for this is that different style of vibrations work best for different issues:
Vertical is great for training, more athletic patients
Oscillating is great for heavier, un-exercised, stiff people.

We often find that a facility is attracting a certain group of patients,
So the determining point as to which unit a doctor should buy is to figure out what kind of practice does he /she have and then recommending the best unit for their practice.
